The Venomous Abyss

Guided by the dark whispers of Malacrass, Zul'jan has freed the forgotten broods of Ula'tek from their prison. As the monster's power grows, Zul'jarra calls upon the Champions of Azeroth to descend into the Vaults of Atal'Utek to stop her brother before the weapon is unleashed upon Azeroth.

Boss 1

Nek'zali the Soulcoiler

Long ago, the shadow hunter Nek'zali and her followers were entombed for the blasphemous act of summoning Ula'tek. Restored by the very power she unleashed, she calls the other Soulcoilers from their tombs to serve her once more.

What the fight is about

As Nek'zali energizes the Soulcoil Well by invoking the Soulcoil Rite, she provokes the Restless Amani to the well.

Upon reaching 50% health, Nek'zali retreats to begin the Ritual of Awakening. Destroying Echoes of Jawae removes their Tethers of Awakening and draws her back.

Upon reaching full energy, she unwinds the Soulcoil and begins Uncoiling, empowering her with new abilities until her defeat.

If you're a tank

  • Possession Barrage inflicts damage based on the distance each barrage travels.
  • Echoes of Jawae awaken during Soul Transfer and provide Nekk'zali with Tether of Awakening.
  • Nek'zali attacks her target with Hollowing Strikes.

If you're a healer

  • Essence Rend lingers and leaves behind a Latent Cultist upon expiration.
  • Soulcoil Ignition inflicts significant damage to all players.

Boss 2

Entombed Sentinels

The Blood and Breath of Ula'tek bar the way to Vashnik's inner sanctum. Ancient golems that long stood guard within the vaults, now corrupted by the venom of the nightmarish monster they imprisoned.

What the fight is about

The Sentinel Golems of Ula'tek are filled with the caustic venoms flowing throughout the temple. The Breath of Ula'tek animates venom to destroy invaders while the Blood of Ula'tek infects players with deadly toxins.

At 100 energy the Sentinels come together to fill their venom levels with Vitriolic Stasis, restoring health to the weaker Sentinel and infecting all players with Helical Toxins.

If you're a tank

  • Toxic Droplets sprays droplets of venom in front of the Breath of Ula'tek.
  • Empowering Slam and Bloodvenom Injection increase in intensity each time they strike the same target.
  • Helical Toxins is neutralized harmlessly upon reaching exactly 4 applications.

If you're a healer

  • Blighted Blood infects players and can be dispelled.
  • Helical Toxins is neutralized harmlessly upon reaching exactly 4 applications.
  • Contaminate inflicts a high amount of damage to all players.

If you deal damage (DPS)

  • Venom Coagulation creates a massive slime that uses Contaminate until it is destroyed.
  • Vitriolic Stasis restores health to the weaker Sentinel until it matches the healthier Sentinel.
  • Helical Toxins is neutralized harmlessly upon reaching exactly 4 applications.

Boss 3

The Lost Explorers

A band of tortollans, possessed by spirits, have come to their senses near the sarcophagus of an ancient Soulcoiler. Trapped in the vault, they seek ancient artifacts to protect themselves from further possession by vengeful spirits.

What the fight is about

Mor'zahi uses Dark Whispers to gain control over a group of tortollan explorers he has lured into the temple. If his control over them is broken, Mor'zahi casts Mor'zahi's Command, expending all of his energy to reassert control and grant the target additional abilities.

Mor'zahi inflicts deadly damage if he is allowed to finish casting Final Ascension.

Mor'zahi's concentration can be broken if a tortollan he is controlling consumes a Disgusting Fish.

If you're a tank

  • Shredding Shards from Scrollsage Iku inflicts high magic damage and vulnerability to this effect to the current target.
  • First Mate Nama's attacks against his current target gain increasing Physical damage from Steady Strikes.
  • First Mate Nama grants United Defense to the tortollan explorers when Scrollsage Iku and Trader Gebbo are both near him.

If you're a healer

  • Blink Nova inflicts high damage to all players. Players farther from Scrollsage Iku's target receive less damage.
  • Icebound Flames inflicts high damage to a player if Scrollsage Iku is not interrupted, but the lingering effects can be dispelled.
  • Splinters inflicts damage over time to any players who stomp on crates thrown by Trader Gebbo.

If you deal damage (DPS)

  • Frost and Fire patches left behind by Frostfire Volley can be removed by the opposing elemental efects of Burning Flames and Piercing Frost.
  • Mighty Thud inflicts very high damage to all players. Each impact inflicts damage split evenly between players directly hit.
  • Trader Gebbo's Explosive Surprise triggers Blas Wavet, which can be avoided using the mushrooms from Mushroom Toss.

Vashnik the Malignant

Within The Chamber of Virulence, Vashnik the Malignant distills Ula'tek's venoms into ever more lethal forms. The creature lurks in its noxious chamber, brewing foul toxins to empower its brood.

What the fight is about

Upon reaching 100 energy, Vashnik Imbibes from the nearest two fountains, increasing his affinity to them. These fountains erupt with vapor, bringing forth living venom that crawl toward the Malignant Cavity in the center of the chamber.

Should a living venom reach its destination, a Malignant Burst occurs.

If you're a tank

  • Dripping Fangs inflicts increasing damage over time.
  • Imbibe infuses Vashnik with the power of two nearby fountains.

If you're a healer

  • Imbibe inflicts heavy damage to all players.
  • Vashnik's chamber fills with increasing Toxic Vapor each time he Imbibes.
  • Siphoning Infection absorbs a large amount of incoming healing.

  • Imbibe creates living venom from two nearby fountains.
  • Living venoms explode in Malignant Bursts unless destroyed.

Boss 5

Sszorak

A horrifying creature, warped by Ula'tek's toxic venom, Sszorak is a brutal instrument of vengeance. Calling upon the winds that howl deep within Atal'Utek, it tears apart any living creature it encounters.

What the fight is about

Sszorak relentlessly assaults players with Apex Predator combination attacks and noxious Venomous Surge globs. The Altar of the Six Winds unleashes Raging Crosswinds and eventually builds to a massive Howling Maelstrom that pushes players around the arena.

If you're a tank

  • During Apex Predator, Sszorak casts a combination of Ravage and Mutilate.
  • Corroding Venom increases Physical damage taken. This effect stacks.
  • When the winds in the Altar of Six Winds build to a Howling Maelstrom, players are pushed in the wind's direction.

If you're a healer

  • Venomous Surge inflicts raid-wide damage. Players farther from the affected player receive less damage.
  • Raging Crosswinds inflicts damage over time before knocking affected players in the indicated direction.
  • When the winds in the Altar of Six Winds build to a Howling Maelstrom, players are pushed in the wind's direction.

If you deal damage (DPS)

  • Venomous Surge inflicts raid-wide damage. Players farther from the affected player receive less damage.
  • Raging Crosswinds inflicts damage over time before knocking affected players in the indicated direction.

Boss 6

The Twin Fangs

The first of Ula'tek's blood, Vexhul and Ithraz brood beneath a roiling sea of venom deep within the vault of Atal'Utek. Any foolish enough to enter the prison's inner chamber risk their monstrous jaws and toxic strikes.

What the fight is about

The Twin Fangs' Eternal Venom accumulates throughout the battle. Vexhul funnels toxin into her target with Caustic Deluge forming Caustic Globules and calls her progeny with Venomous Emergence. Ithraz consumes players with Ravenous Feast and strikes repeatedly with Stone Breaker.

At 100 energy, both serpents submerge and reposition before attacking together. Vexhul releases a Vile Flood while Ithraz spews globs of gore during Sanguine Storm.

If you're a tank

  • Caustic Globules form near the Caustic Deluge target.
  • If Stone Breaker strikes no players, it instead strikes all players.

If you're a healer

  • Caustic Deluge ejects a salvo of globules which afflict players with Eternal Venom when touched.
  • Venomous Emergence summons Spawns of Vexhul which will continuously target players with Corrosive Spit.

If you deal damage (DPS)

  • Caustic Deluge ejects a salvo of globules which afflict players with Eternal Venom when touched.

Boss 7

The Coiled Altar

The spirit of Malacrass will not release his grip on Zul'jan so easily. At the Coiled Altar, the shaman commands the warrior to enact the final ritual to unleash Ula'tek on the Amani--for revenge, and to gain their promised reward.

What the fight is about

A mutated Zul'jan unleashes his new power by Coalescing Venom within The Coiled Altar. He wields twin axes that Sever players and destroy Coalesced Venom.

Upon Zul'jan's defeat, Malacrass joins the fray. Malacrass haunts players with Dreadmarch, creating Manifestations of Dread as it resolves. His casts of Soul Sever hurt players and destroy any Manifestations of Dread in its blast.

Upon defeat, Malacrass begins a ritual of Soulbinding to revive Zul'jan as his puppet, and claim what is rightfully his.

If you're a tank

  • Sever inflicts a massive amount of damage, destroying Coalesced Venom.
  • Soul Sever afflicts players hit with Gravebound and destroys Manifestations of Dread.
  • Corrupted Toxin inflicts stacking moderate damage.

If you're a healer

  • Fangs of the Coiled Altar and Defilement of the Coiled Altar inflicts massive damage and healing absorbs to all players.
  • Coalesced Venom explode into a Venom Rupture when destroyed.

Boss 8

Ula'tek

The great shame of the Amani empire. The vast complex of Altal'Utek was created to imprison the weapon that proved to be as much of a threat as the enemy she was intended to destroy. Ula'tek has risen from her ancient slumber and threatens all of Azeroth if she should escape.

What the fight is about

Ula'tek splashes venom across her platform with Caustic Waves. Any Blightscale Spawn that touch her venom hatches and covers players in a Putrid Membrane. While her slithering children continue to spawn, Ula'tek uses her Spectral Coils to shatter the space.

After Ula'tek rails against her prison with Rage of the Shackled she summons her faithful then dives beneath the venom to gather her strength. Ula'tek's Doomscale Wardens move between the Blightscale Spawn imbuing them with Writhing Gestation as the Doomscale Eggs begin to hatch.

With her progeny broken, Ula'tek shatters the arena. She continues to use Call of the Serpent to gather her forces while destroying the only safe spaces remaining with Circling Prey.

If you're a tank

  • Ula'tek uses Unchecked Rage while not engaged in melee combat.
  • Ula'tek's Gore Rattle uses Rattler Slam while not engaged in melee combat.
  • Mother's Wrath inflicts damage to everyone while no one is in its area of effect.

If you're a healer

  • Every Blightscale Viper hatched inflicts Putrid Membrane to all players.
  • Spectral Coils inflicts damage to everyone that is reduced by the number of players at the impact location.

  • Blightscale Spawn hatch a Blightscale Viper when they connect with venom.
  • A Blightscale Clutch grows in power unless destroyed.
  • Doomscale Wardens use Writhing Gestation on nearby Blightscale Spawn.
